Без значение какво ще го наричаме - McKinley (официалното име на US) или Denali (традиционното име на местните хора Koyukon Athabascan и името, признато от щата Аляска) -  най-високата планина в Северна Америка, 20,320 фута над морското равнище. No matter what you call it – McKinley (the official US name) or Denali (the traditional name of the local Koyukon Athabaskan people and the name recognized by the state of Alaska) – it’s still the highest mountain in North America, at 20,320 feet above sea level, according to the National Park Service. And if that superlative wasn’t enough, consider this: In terms of base-to-peak measurements, McKinley is actually higher than Mount Everest, rising from the tundra at its base more than 17,000 vertical feet to the top, a full 5,000 feet higher than Everest’s climb from its south base.

The colossus of the Alaskan wilderness beckons many climbers every year, luring them with the formidable challenge of reaching the South Summit. And the summer of 2014, when this photo was taken, proved to be one of the most difficult Denali climbing seasons in years.


Harsh conditions meant that only about a third of those who attempted the climb in 2014 actually reached the summit. But those who made it through to the top get lifetime bragging rights for having ascended some 20,320 feet above sea level.
